Conquering Fansipan peak with the disabled

Medical Committee Netherlands-Vietnam (MCNV) and the Netherlands Embassy in Vietnam have organized a “Conquering Fansipan together” event in Sapa town, Lao Cai province to promote the inclusion of disabled people in society from June 20-23.
The mountaineers include 45 members of MCNV, the Netherlands Embassy in Vietnam, central and local state authorities, who are stakeholders in inclusive development, and young disabled people. All participants will team up to conquer the Fansipan peak.
“Building a good society starts with making it possible for everyone to participate; that is inclusion,”
according to Cas van der Horst, Deputy Head of Mission, the Netherlands Embassy in Vietnam.
This is one of many activities celebrating the 45th year of MCNV in Vietnam (1968 – 2013) and the 40th year of diplomatic relations
between Vietnam and the Netherlands (1973 – 2013). MCNV, together with nationwide partners, has organized a series of events with the theme, “Towards an inclusive society” for disabled people. This also reflects a key principle of MCNV’s work in Vietnam.
Van der Horst said: “Bilateral relations between Vietnam and the Netherlands have changed to trade and investment relations. Although the Netherlands does not pour ODA into Vietnam anymore, this country still supports Vietnam through aiding its organizations, enterprises and individuals who want to invest in Vietnam. There is around 15 million euros invested in Vietnam from the Netherlands in many ways.”
